Namings

A Naming Ceremony is a wonderful way of welcoming a child into the community and celebrating new life. The ceremony is an excellent forum for the cultural expression of joy, hope and acceptance.
It is essentially a non-religious ceremony but if a parent wishes it, a prayer or religious reading may be included in ceremony. Namings are special ceremonies that invite the parents and other supporting adults to make life fulfilling commitments to the child. It recognizes and appoints those who have a significant role in the child’s development. A child can be named at any age.

Here are a few items that can be included in your ceremony:-

  • Special readings, promises.
  • Wishes for the future read out from the whole group.
  • Sharing of a story,
  • Meaning of Childs name.
  • Special gift for child.
  • Blessing from Grandparents, Godparents or Mentors.
  • Lighting of the candle ceremony.
  • Presentation of beautiful souvenir style certificates.
  • Childs Name recorded on special register that is kept by Marriage Celebrant.

All of this can be discussed at an initial interview. I will need to see your child’s Birth Certificate. After this, there can be follow up visits or contacts, rehearsal if necessary. The ceremony itself may take anything from 15-30 minutes.

I will provide you with ideas and suggestions and weave them together, along with your input, into a meaningful ceremony that hopefully will incorporate the very essence of what your child means to you; and will become part of your family history.
